Fall is here! It's hot and cooling off at and higher level of  living is here. Get those lungs ready  for the ridge.HIKE THE NEW TRAIL TO WHEELER PEAK, a great way to train. Get on those mountain bikes, TSV has lots of high altitude trails to get you in shape for hiking the ridge and  skiing the  powder, endurance is paramont! Hiking with a pack, (be sure to have what you need if it storms), will also increase your endurance. For ballance nothing is better than to conqour those logs crossing icy fast running streams, rock hopping and  manuvering in skree covered peakes will center you and create supurb ballance. Lunging up a trial will increase quad strengh for all you free heelers and downward trail  diagonal hops will add to your quickened reaction time. Run it if you can for  more endurance. Be safe, be prepared for changing weather conditions, bring sunscreen, hydration and munchies and go have fun getting in shape and ready to slide!

Happy Thanksgiving means  time to slide!!!

Start training!!!!! Agility and  all exercises that challenge your balance, trail running hopping over logs and  bounding laterally, spurts of   starts and  stops. Get a partner and  mirror each other by challenging your buddy with fast quick movements in all directions. Throw  a weighted ball back and  forth and  balance one 1 foot. Add lots of side way movements and  hop back and  forth staying aligned over the center. Do squats on a bosu ball, 1 legged and  two legged. Weight training in the  Gym for strength, spinning and  stair master are good for  both strength and endurance.  DON'T FOR GET THOSE CRUNCHES EITHER, FOR YOUR CORE!!!

Best tip is get out side and play find altitude!

Fall 07
First snow is flying now is the time  to  check your equipment for the  season boots feeling like  slippers? no way You  should seek the  advise  of  a  qualified boot fitter. Your boots should be  modern and  snug, fit  to incorporate all those fine tuning movements. Less is more! That means if the boot is too big you can  not be an efficient skier! Be sure  to  have  all you equipment checked too. Bindings should be reset again to  your ability. A well tuned pair of  skis is a great way to  start on all that man made snow.

Don't for get to train!!
Core, agility and balance are just as important as strength training.

Keep it  simple! With  the  "new  shaped" skies  it is so easy to turn.
You no  longer  need  to   use  your whole  body!
Try  this; on  a gentle  slope  do  a straight  run down the hill. Gently  tip  both  skies to  the  right. ( Be  patient!)
Let both  skies  seek the  fall line, than  gently  tip both skies to  the  left.
You  will  see  how  easy it is  to  turn and  better  yet you  will not  get as  tired!

relax be sure to  look where  you  are  going  and  relax.
look  and move toward  the new  turn,  tip  the  skies to drift and  float  into  the  fall line.  Gently direct  BOTH legs and  skis  in the  new  direction. stay centered and  have fun!

Be sure  to  check your  equipment fat  is  in for  those  powder days!

When  skiing  in the  bumps  be  sure  to  first look  where  you  want  to  go.  than  aim  your   new  inside   thigh  and   knee.  lead  the  release  with the same  leg and  foot.
remember  early  pole  plant.

Keep pressure on the cuff of  your boot! Remember the driving starts at the feet an ankles, not  the head!

AND  THOSE  POWDER DAYS!
look first  to  where  you  want  to  go. aim  with  your belly too!  keep  your  core  strength  (tummy strong)  release  your  skies to the  new  direction. wait  until the  skies find  the   fall  line  and  turn out  by tipping  the  skies  until they  almost stop.

Spring  crud. It  can  be great fun! Keep a strong core, stay centered with pressure on the cuff of the boots. Be sure to  keep the new inside leg controlled through the turn. Don't twist the upper body or you  be stuck for sure!

P.S.  have  a  great  day on the slopes!
